The notice on the Newcastle shop is better. Lots more attitude. This post might need to be updated a few times if other photos arrive.

Looks like the CC have conclusively joined the dots from SSG to ENC Shop Management, the Brewer sock puppet which currently runs these shops.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see what they do with Durham and Chichester – to be consistent, they’ll need to change the locks there too, as the audit trail to SSG is just as clear in those two places as it is everywhere else. The politics of doing so on cathedral premises might present a challenge or two….!

Stock in the Newcastle shop? Well the stock in the shops go round and round…It came from Sheffield.
I understand that the Charity Commission have been informed that the personal staff records (including addresses and Bank details) of all SPCK and then SSG stafff were held at the Chester shop.
Lets hope they are now safe…..

Well, David, you may recall that on this blog on 10 April it was stated that insurance cover for all shops, including Durham and Chichester, was with SSG, so not many dots needing to be joined, just a look at an official document posted up in the shops.

It breaks my heart to see the Newcastle shop come to this in only 3 short years – once a well patronised book-shop with customers all over the north-east, it now has a very bleak outlook. Lets hope some benefactor can take over and with God’s help, restore it to its former glory!

Bizarrely, perhaps, I feel kinda sorry for ‘Black Bond’ — for all that he was a Brewerite, I get the impression that he was trying to offer a genuine service. Of course, I could be wrong!
Yes. I think he was – and I’m not even sure whether he was getting a proper salary. I think he may have been as much a Brewer victim as a Brewerite.
Most but not all of Brewer’s workers were trying to offer a service despite him. One would bang on about “trusting our president”. Others would say, “I’m not reading the blog as it upsets me.” Two said that they were just there to earn a wage. It would be fair to say that all were warned about the Brewers. It would also be fair to say that the two “independents” were warned about them as well.
I would like to echo Jim but I would say this about all the shops, not just Newcastle. May they be resurrected by those who know what they are doing. In the case of Worcester – when and if it re-opens I hope that I will see some sign recognising Steve’s work and vision.
