It would be unfair to run the Brewers through the mill without subjecting myself to the same treatment, so here goes:

Have to say, I kinda like the idea of being likened to a Honey Badger, and the Brewers’ “power animals” seem to fit what I’ve seen of their personalities too. To add to the amusement value, I’ve added Google image search links for each animal. As for the numerology number stuff… in Mark’s case it really is, as they say, bulls**t; in Phil B’s case, it’s two-thirds bulls**t — I’ll leave it to you to decide which part is which; and in my case, it’s mostly true… so at this point I’d better quit before I over-ponder the issue.

Try it on yourselves; and enjoy.

  1. I typed in my Zulu name and they couldn’t decide whether I was male or female. They tell me I’m a Black Pirranha! Pirranhas are black? Reminds me of my son’s Sunday School Drawing to which his teacher took exception. She was doing the loaves and fishes and got the kids to do a drawing. Said son drew pirannhas with great big teeth. Got another complaint the next week when she did Jesus walking on the water and said son drew Jesus on a surfboard.

  2. Asingleblog, you do make me laugh, what a challenge for sunday school teacher ,children do put life into perspective. By the way what is your Zulu name.

  3. Hey – maybe the kid’s onto something; and maybe that’s the Brewers’ problem: they thought running a chain of bookshops was like a shortcut to walking on water, but forgot their surfboards?

Had a visitor from Chichester in my shop yesterday who told me how dire it is there. They’re not trading under the SPCK name now but she couldn’t remember what name they are using; whatever it is, she was well frustrated at being unable to find what’s new or buy the books she wants there any more.

Thank you, Mark Brewer, for being “responsible, careful, and compassionate”; thank you, Phil Brewer, for having such a marvellous “aptitude for business, managerial and financial matters.” If only more bookshop owners were like you, the entire Christian book trade could be sunk faster than the Titanic.

  4. Aequitas, Zulu name Lindiwe. Same son went to Glasgow University where Lungilie at his graduation was called “lunch”. I think that’s what the Brewers thought when they took over 23 bookshops.

  5. When you ring Chichester the voice at the other end of the phone tells you that it is a St Stephen the Great Bookshop. That is a lot better than the Durham crowd who will tell you that you are calling the Durham Cathedral Shop.

  6. Discovered I was a Siberian Chipmunk – just as long as my squirrel stripes are the right colour for a Mackem, which is why Mousey likes (black) cats…
Also discovered some thrilling new films for Christmas starring Brewer anagrams and animals – on asingleblog

  7. I’m a white rhino?! How on earth do they work that out?

  8. Well, this is what they said about Pax Vobiscum:
‘In Pig Latin, it is Axpay Obiscumvay.
People with this first name are probably: Male or female… We don’t know yet. We’re working on it! ‘
I don’t need Pig Latin, I use Camel Latin (also known as Church Latin).
I know whether I’m male of female (usually).
Oh, and I’m another Black Pirahna – sounds like the default answer.
Other than that it was 100% accurate (plus or minus 99%).

  9. I was feeling silly so I discovered that Chichester Cathedral is a white rhino and Durham Cathedral is a Griffon Vulture.

  10. Vulture’s in Durham Cathedral? Werewolves in Durham Cathedral? I think I prefer Mousey’s bats.
